Hairspray is the story of a jubilant kid named Tracy Turnblad, a hopeful dancer who wishes to earn a place on a local TV show called the Corny Collins Show. The show is in actual fact based on a Baltimore-based television show called the Buddy Dean Show in Baltimore, Maryland.

Tracy is an unknown in the dancing sphere when she has an interview, regardless she is selected for one of the dancing spots and against very long odds becomes a dancing celebrity almost overnight. Tracy is ecstatic with this brand new status, and she makes the decision to make use of her new fame to bring about positive developments to the TV show. The key motive behind these positive changes is to do with race. Tracy seeks to racially combine the TV program, and as one could imagine, Tracy is met with a good deal of conflict.

Hairspray set up shop in the West End in two-thousand and seven, opening for journalists at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October 11, before being revealed to the general public at its certified opening on October thirtieth, two-thousand and seven. The production has featured some famous actors — Michael Ball plays the character of Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s very own mother, delivering a fantastic rendition in this demanding female role, whilst Mel Smith played joke shop manager Wilbur Turnblad, Tracy’s father. Hairspray the theatre show has gained many positive mentions from reporters & musical theatre enthusiasts alike. I love the theatre show and wish they could stay on much longer. Ben Ellis is unbelievable as link & Leanne Jones as Tracey & Michael Ball, well they are all splendid. The theatre show hairspray is undeniably my favourite, mainly because it is positive & if you’re feeling sad then it will make you feel a great deal happier.
