Hairspray is the story of an elated girl named Tracy Turnblad, an aspiring dancer who wants to earn a place on a local telly show named the Corny Collins Show. The programme is essentially based on a Baltimore-based television series referred to as the Buddy Dean Show in Baltimore, Maryland.

Tracy is unfamiliar in the dancing circle when she has an interview, however she is elected for one of the dancing positions & against considerably long odds she becomes a dancing star nearly overnight. Tracy is overjoyed by this brand new reputation, & she decides to use her status to bring about positive developments to the TV show. The key cause behind these positive developments involves race. Hairspray went to the West End in two thousand & seven, opening for previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October the eleventh, before being uncovered to the public at its official opening on October thirtieth, two-thousand and seven. The musical production has included some renowned actors — Michael Ball plays the part of Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s mother, giving a wonderful rendition in this difficult female position, whilst Mel Smith played joke shop owner Wilbur Turnblad, Tracy’s father. The original cast in the West End also includes newcomer to the theatre scene, Leanne Jones, in the character of Tracy.

I love the theatre show and wish they could stay on much longer. Ben Ellis is astonishing as link & Leanne Jones as Tracey & Michael Ball, well they are all simply remarkable. The production of hairspray is definitely my favourite, it is positive and if you are feeling a tad bit gloomy then it is guaranteed to make you feel so much better.
