A Brief Primer on the Phenomena of National Lotteries

Posted by admin - March 3rd, 2010

National prize draws are now extremely popular across the world. So much so the draws are oftentimes televised during prime times just so everybody can sit in front of the TV and tick off their numbers. Still, despite the UK’s lottery catchphase of “It could be you”, it well-nigh on surely will not be - even if you took part in the national lottery for a lifetime. The majority of individuals do the national lottery merely for a bit of fun, and at the same time maintaining the daydream (theoretically at least) of feasibly becoming a millionaire. Most individuals don’t only purchase a lottery ticket - they are buying a dream.

Even though lotteries really make it next to impossible to win for each individual, there are prize draw competitions that take place online which DO provide you with a real possibility of getting your hands on very good items , for example a Hi-Fi system, a car or even a house. These types of competitions - while not handing you the chance to win one millions of pounds - will present to you a realistic chance of being a winner. Moreover, you usually have to correctly answer some questions prior to being allowed into the competition itself. - so some skill is involved.

It’s good advice to view what’s available on the internet. Just type in some keyphrases into Google such as UK prize draw and you will promptly pull up numerous competitions to enter.

Protect Your Hand

Posted by admin - February 16th, 2010

Every card that comes onto the table in a hand of poker is an opportunity for your hand to be drawn out on. Unless you are the one doing the drawing, for each card that comes you must be constantly vigilant for how the new card affects the board: what possible hands the new card makes, how likely it is that card actually hits your poker opponent, what new possibilities it adds to you hand, etc.

Sometimes, then, if you believe your opponent is drawing, even when you have a big hand it can be better to put an end to the hand rather than string along more money in hopes they do not hit. Players who do not protect their hand from draws in the right spots will find themselves not only losing the pot, but giving more money to it to have it proven that they actually lost.

The best way to protect your hand when you know you have the best but it is vulnerable is to bet enough in relation to the pot that it is not worthwhile for your opponent to continue. As much or more than is in the pot forces your opponent to pay against the odds to catch up and suck out on your hand. Remember this at the casino.

Caro on Keys

Posted by admin - December 29th, 2009

In another self-interview by Mike Caro of Mike Caro, the “Mad-Genius” speaks out on the use of the word “Keys” and how it is applicable to poker. After speaking extensively that the word “keys” is overused in everyday life, saying that people have keys for everything and that the word has lost its impact, he goes on to ask the first question: “What is the key to winning at poker.”

If you’re looking for a simple magic bullet, you’re looking in the wrong place. According to Caro there isn’t one individual key to winning, but rather there are many keys to winning, many “doors to be opened.”

When speaking of keys, Caro distinguishes between a nice piece of advice that may give you and edge and a true key, without which you will be “left out in the cold,” and missing a valuable piece of information that leads to true success.

One key is playing your best game all the time. But that itself is not enough all the time, says Caro. Let’s say you have a poor game, even if you played it flawlessly, it still may not be enough to get you through the door and into the profit margin.

Well then, how do you get past this limitation? Well the key here is table selection. In fact, you don’t have to be the best online poker player, or even near the top to make money playing. I like to think of the analogy of being chased by a bear in the woods. To survive, you don’t have to be the fastest runner, you just have to be faster than the slowest runner.

Now take that and apply it to online poker. You don’t have to be the best player in the casino, you just have to be better than the opponents you choose to play against. And this, Caro says, is one of the true keys to poker profit.

Chinese Lanterns Snapped in UK

Posted by admin - November 13th, 2009

The popularity of Chinese lanterns has been on the rise this summer the Chinese Lanterns team have had some great fun trying to snap high quality pic’s on film of these magical lanterns cascading into the air.Well in all honestness we have been utilizing digital cam’s as opposed to film due to the ease of operation and adjustments of the photo’s;Snappy edit and instant playback of shots as well as the storage of hundreds of snaps per memory stick is a very invoking quality. The capacity limitation of my old polaroid 24 pics camera seems old school by comparability. Making movies by a simple turn of the dial is likewise a great feature for capturing baby’s first steps or a Chinese Lantern drifting skyward.I bought a camera last month and can confirm to you it was not a conclusion I made lightly There are many different facets of the buying conclusionto get your head around and that’s before taking into account the reviews that oftentimes feature contradictory information to some extent. It’s easy to get overcome by it all. I found that using a site like dpreview.com is very handy as it breaks the camera’s into families such as compact, prosumer etc. It also offers for the most part independent critiques and invaluable reader feedback. But after all that the decison does literally and figuratively rest in your grip.. You really need to get one in your grip to know what feels right for your style of photography

Recognizing Profitable Situations: the Fake Steam

Posted by admin - November 10th, 2009

One of the most profitable situations in online poker is right after a bad beat. Of course the conditions have to be set exactly and you have to have full control over your steam, or tilt as some call it, factor.

See with time, you’ll slowly lose your tilt factor. In fact that’s why so many pros can play the way they do. They take their bad beats and don’t go on tilt or steam after one of them like a lot of inexperienced players do.

So, with tilt factor under control, let’s say you just took a bad bet. Here’s how you set up the fake steam.

Actually, let me revise. You don’t set it up, but rather you get dealt a very strong poker hand right after a bad beat. Here is where you can make a huge move and it’s all in the psychology of the play. See, a lot of players will project when at the table. They’ll think of what they would be doing, and a lot of times a big move after a bad beat looks like a desperation push to steal or buy a pot, or it looks like you’re trying to bluff a marginal hand, or maybe you’re just so tilted that you push with any two cards. It could be interpreted in any of these ways.

So what you do is simply make the play like you would if you were tilting or steaming, but you do it with a strong hand. No need to slow play here, since most of the other players will be thinking about your last hand, they’ll mentally project that you’re tilting if that’s what they themselves do. And when you do get into such a situation, you maximize your profit by faking your steam factor. Maybe a gross overbet and you hit the flop hard and you overbet shove all-in. Looks like a tilt play, but in reality, you’re just taking advantage of the situation. In the future we’ll review more situational plays that you can use to your advantage to maximize profit at a casino online.

Online Poker Player Types: the ‘Online Pro’

Posted by admin - October 6th, 2009

One of the quickest and no nonsense ways to tell if an online poker player is a big gun is to look directly at his icon. Many sites will award their regular online poker players and tournament winners with modifications to their icon that clue them in immediately as winners. This is a badge of pride letting you know that they know how to play the game.

Beyond the obvious markings, there are plenty of other ways to tell if an online poker player is a professional, or at least someone who produces results. Online databases such as Sharkscope allow you to look up a player’s record history by simply entering their screen name, and it’s free! Obviously nothing speaks as loudly as these cold hard numbers. Beyond this as well, another good sign to the fact that a player knows what he is doing is that he appears at several tables at once. It takes a level of increased skill to be able to multitable, and so seeing them pop up in many places at once should be a good indicator that you should be careful when in a hand with these players.

By doing your research before you even enter the hand, you can learn valuable information for free, and be that much further ahead of the pack.

Limits in H. O. R. S. E

Posted by admin - May 11th, 2009

By now you know the basic structure of online poker H.O.R.S.E. (Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven Card Stud, Stud Eights or Better), but how much do you know about betting limits at the casino. When you first think about the betting limits in H.O.R.S.E., it can seem quite intimidating. After all, if each game is different- does that mean that there are five different betting limits? That would be incredibly difficult to keep track of and a definite roadblock to beginners.

Good news for all you online poker H.O.R.S.E. fans out there- there is just one fixed limit for an entire H.O.R.S.E. series. Gosh, I can practically hear the sighs of relief from all of you out there. I really like this trait of a H.O.R.S.E. series because it is one less thing on my mind. The last thing that you want to think about when you are trying to focus on your game is whether the betting limit for this round is the same of the last.

Like most things in life, fixed limits have their pros and cons. I’ve already mentioned my favorite pro, so let’s look at the cons. fixed limits mean that if you are really good at one leg of the tournament, there is really no way to bet big in that section to cover your losses in another. You have to be uniformly good. Betting limits in H.O.R.S.E. are just one way that game organizers make sure that the game is reserved for the best of the best.

The Math of Chaos and How it Relates to Poker

Posted by admin - October 1st, 2008

At the heart of every hand of poker is the force of chaos. Chaos is simply the idea that nothing can be completely predictable. While volumes of books have been written on chaos, the main idea is that in poker you are trying to control it. First the chaos is controlled by giving a finite amount of outcomes from any card being flipped. In most poker games a deck of fifty two cards is used. This means that in a poker game everyone has a 1 in 52 chance of getting any one card. However to further put the force of chaos in a box, poker also makes use of suits, the pairing of cards and many other finite characteristics that help to further adjust the odds. Yet no matter how well chaos is controlled in a poker game, it will always exist.

In poker chaos is often referred too as luck. In fact many people who play poker have a very strong belief in luck. The reason why this happens is that as humans we need to believe that something controls the outcome of everything. This is just as true in poker as it is in anything else we do. However the problem is that chaos by its very nature is beyond our ability to control completely. Yes we can limit its effects, we can set up a poker game to get rid of as much chaos as possible, but because poker still has a random element, after all that is what makes the game so much fun, then that means it will always have chaos. The real trick in poker is to not so much as make this chaos work for you as it is to make it work against everyone else at the table.
